Jail Visitation Information

The Day County Sheriff’s Office allows for normal visitation of inmates every Tuesday and Sunday from the hours of 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.  The length of the visitation shall be limited to 15 miutes per visit if someone else is waiting to see the inmate. If the prisoner has only one or two visitors they may stay longer as long as it does not interfere with other inmatess visitation. The number of persons visiting an inmate at any one time is limited to three, unless the jailor on duty determines it is too crowded. The jailor has the authority to limit the number of visitors and the time length of the visits at any time.

Exceptions to these hours are for visits from Mental Health professionals, Attorneys, Medical Professionals, Clergy or other religious leaders, or other such professional persons deemed appropriate by the Sheriff.  These persons may visit inmates at any time.

In the case of juvenile inmates, the Sheriff has determined a further policy allowance to provide for the visitation of juvenile inmates by parents or guardians on a more frequent basis.  Parents or guardians may see juveniles at other times during the week, except at scheduled mealtimes, if they first call and set up an appointment with jail staff.  The jailor on duty will schedule these visits if they feel that it will not interfere with operations in the jail. These special visitations for juveniles do not apply to his or her entire family, but specifically to the parents or guardians.
