Detention Center and Jail

The Day County Sheriff’s Office operates the Day County Detention Center in Webster, South Dakota. The Detention Center has been granted Collocated Juvenile Detention status by the South Dakota Department of Corrections and does hold juvenile inmates. Day County not only holds juveniles, who are residents of Day County, but also holds juveniles for Roberts, Marshall, Grant, and other counties; as well as holding juveniles for the Sisseton-Wahpeton Oyate.

By Federal standards, a collocated facility is defined as a juvenile facility that is in the same building as an adult jail or lockup or is part of a related complex of buildings located on the same grounds as an adult jail or lockup. A complex of buildings is considered related when it shares physical features such as walls and fences or services beyond mechanical services (heating, air conditioning, water, sewer) or beyond specialized services such as medical care, food service, laundry, maintenance, and engineering. All of the staff at the detention canter are trained and certified to work with children, and the facility has been approved as a collocated facility by the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention.
